Assisting the community through basketball.

Power Assist is a volunteer based, 'not for profit' organisation focussed on personal development and building the self esteem of people who are intellectually disabled, or otherwise disadvantaged, by providing sporting opportunities, primarily through basketball.

We do this by focusing on building the self respect, physical wellbeing, and confidence of the people we have contact with via our various programs.

Our programs include The Victorian Championship Basketball Competition and various special education programs that we run from time to time with the aim of fostering healthy and fulfilling lifestyles for the participants and to provide opportunities to further develop social, numerical and communication skills, and valued basketball skills like coaching and scoring.

We also play an active role in the Victorian teams who compete in the Ivor Burge National Championships each year.  The Ivor Burge National Championships are run by Basketball Australia and showcase the best of Australia’s basketball talent.  The Australian teams are selected from players who compete at this competition each year.

Many players from Friday night basketball have gone on to play for Victoria and some have represented Australia at the Paralympic games, the Global Games, World Championships and other international competitions, travelling the world!
