In the 2023 Australia Day Honours List last Thursday, Sally Duncan was recognised for her service to basketball and to people with a disability, with a Medal of the Order of Australia.

Reflecting on her 20+ years of involvement with Friday night basketball, Sally thanked the many people who have encouraged and supported her including:

  • Vern (OAM) who originally invited her to become involved
  • David, John, Graeme, Scott and Roger – all past members of the Board who shared their knowledge, passion and experiences to help develop what we enjoy today
  • Maurice, David, Pete, Kath and Paul – our current board members who work so hard to ensure our weekly competition remains great
  • the many volunteers who contribute what they can to help in the running of each week (including referees, door people, coaches, team managers)

To the thousands of players and their families that Sally has met over the years, she says “Thank You” – for coming along to enjoy basketball.  “Sport is a wonderful way to make friends, to keep fit, to face challenges and achieve goals.  Friday night basketball has always been an awesome thing to be a part of, and I’m so happy I get to share it each week with Pete and also with so many people who want to be there”.

Congratulations Sally (OAM)
