We always know that our Grand Final nights are going to be sensational, but when we have 4 of the 5 games decided by 5 points or less, and one game going into overtime – well needless to say it was a very exciting night of games.  Congratulations to everyone who played – awesome effort to get to the finals, and a terrific display of skills and sportspersonship on the night.  As organisers of this competition, we couldn’t be prouder of the standard of games last Friday night, and also the spirit in which the games were played.  Well done Coaches, Players and Supporters.

The first game of the night – Division 2 – saw a very intense game played between Leppards and Razors.  Of the 17 young men who competed, 15 recorded personal fouls – so it was a very physical game between these two teams.  Despite a game-high 18 points for Kevin, the Razors steadied every challenge and won the game by 2 points (29 – 27).  Special mention to Razors player Tom, scoring 10 points but also dominating the defensive boards.  This is the Razors first Grand Final win – congratulations.

The second game – Division 4 – saw the Sharks, who only lost one game for the season, come up against the Boomerangs. Despite high scoring from Charlie and Sam in the first half, the Boomerangs were outplayed by Keely and Jack and the Sharks in the end, but only by 4 points.  The Boomerangs came back hard in the second half but just ran out of time. Final score 28 – 24.  This is the Sharks first season and we are delighted that a couple of the players will be moving up to compete in Division 3 next season – well done.

The Men’s Championship game was played between Roar and Raiders with Roar winning 37 to 26.  The 11 point margin was secured by Roar in the first 5 minutes of the game, but the remainder of the game saw a very close competition.  In particular, the second half was very exciting where Raiders outscored Roar in an attempt to claw back their lead.  Congratulations to both teams for a very entertaining and high standard game.  And well done to Roar who remain undefeated as Victorian Champions for many seasons now.  This team remain a group of guys who went to school together and remain great friends years later – they are committed to the team they started playing in many years ago – they organise and coach the team themselves.

Our fourth game – Division 3 – was played between the dominant team of the grade, Rage, and newcomers, Ashwood Jets.  This game was close for the whole 40 minutes, going into overtime, where the Jets broke away to secure a 5 point win (36-31).  The large crowd was quite exhausted at the end but great to hear so much cheering and support for both teams.  The Rage team are moving up to Division 2 next season and we wish them all the best in that next level of competition.  Adam and Anton from the Jets are also going to play in Division 2 – great to see our players moving up into the higher levels.

The Women’s Championship game was held as the final game for the night – between Wild Kats and Avengers.  With a 3 point lead at half time, the Wild Kats managed to hold on for a 3 point win (37-34).  Great shooting from Riki with 15 points wasn’t enough.  Congratulations to Zarah in her first season coaching the Avengers.  It was a terrific end to a season where our ladies teams have supported each other, played in the true spirit of the game and certainly upheld the beliefs and purpose of Power Assist – Congratulations to you all, as you are amazing ambassadors for this sport.  Congratulations to the Wild Kats and Hamish who have also dominated the competition in Grand Final wins for several seasons.

Power Assist would like to thank all of the supporters who came to the games on Friday night, who cheered loudly, who bought a sausage, who made a donation, and who were thoughtful to say Thanks to our brilliant Volunteers.  Winter season commences on 17th May and runs through until the end of October.
